Well since we have a topic discussing the best examples of 3D on the 3DO, what about the games that just don't do the abilities of the beast justice?

Example.. the 3DO had some great abilities for Raycasting since we have the great D&D games to show that off but then we had such games a PO'ED, while it's not a god awful game the Raycasting has shearing and texture stretching where it shouldn't (particularly when you jump). The system could do the math but you could say the developers couldn't.

Some true 3D games that just don't cut it... the golf games.. god the gold games.. you think they could add a hill or two here and there instead of a texture mapped plane.. Waialae Country Golf was god awful but then again.. what can you expect? Though Wicked 18 was a much better game in terms of presentation.. Scramble Cobra.. eh.. it's not too bad but it just doesn't compare to other 3D engines out there for the 3DO

Your opinions?

I see this is going to hopefully be one of the topics that sticks here for a bit. I actually really do enjoy Scramble Cobra. It really is one of the more fun Helicopter games I have ever played, and I am dead serious. The game that really pisses me off though when it comes to 3D is DOOM. I know it's not a full 3D engine, but that is my point. People all over the gaming community decided the 3DO was a hunk of crap because the system couldn't handle DOOM when we all know that the system is more than capable of doing just that. A great example would be Killing Time. The game uses the same damn rendering technology as DOOM and even adds some kick to the package. Art Data fucking up DOOM's port really hurt the 3DO badly and I would personally like to tell them to Fuck Off for helping to kill the system.

Virtuoso is another one that really pisses me off. That game just outright sucks. A lot of the Jaguar fans are upset they didn't get this game for the Jaguar CD when they actually should be thanking God that the game died a slow and painful death before it's cold dead hands could hurt the Jaguar anymore than it already was hurt.

Yeah, I think we can all say with great confidence that DOOM for the 3DO was a travesty, but what truly does it injustice is that the system could have handled the game incredibly well, Wolfenstein 3D, Killing Time and the D&D games are testaments to that. It's that the company that developed the game was just that horrible at coding. The Jag and 3DO share that in common.. shoddy programming and short cuts. It's sadder for the 3DO because unlike the Jag the dev tools were there and there really was no excuse for sub par games in that regard.
