| Was Shockwave a good series? |
| It was a fine example of what 32-bit gaming was like at the time. |

| You know, for a series that had two games and a very well made expansion pack released for it, people seem to forget this gem of a series, or am I the only person that actually liked this series? Mind you, alot of what was going on in this game was stuff that several studios were trying to make happen in other games, but Electronic Arts actually accomplished it. All three releases were fine examples of what you could do with both FMV content and nicely balanced controls and graphics. The sound on these games is especially awesome. I swear, these go hand in hand with Wing Commander III. Does anyone else around the 3DO community actually like these games? |

| I havn't played this game yet :/ but I can say this, from what I've seen of it, Hover Strike for the Jag is a complete rip-off of this series. |

Nope. Hoverstrike actually originated as Battlezobne 2000. Not even close to the same thing to a degree. Same basic play mechanics but both games released at about the same time to boot. Unless they were both working on the games in the same rooms together, I doubt this is possible. Nice theory though. |

| The series had a lot of potential (the video was usually the weak point, but in a way i kind of like the cheesy acting in many 3do titles). Shockwave 2 was far better and always reminded me of a 3do title that was released later for the PC, i think it was called uprising seemed to be very similar gameplay & engine wise. |

Truthfully, I thought that the acting in the Shockwave series was not that bad, especially when you look at the crap on the Sci Fi Channel these days. Most of those shows don't have actors that are half as good as these guys were. Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but it is what it is. |

Some of the enemies are very similar, and it's possible that Atari saw Shockwave and wanted to make a game similar to it. |

The major difference between Hoverstrike (cd or cart) and Shockwave is that one is playable, and one is not.
I thought the Shockwave games were great, just a tad difficult. |

Shockwave always seemed to grab me pretty well. The series is difficult to play, but damn, the games are fun. I actually beat the first game and I think I got close to beating "Operation Jumpgate". As for the second game though, damn, it's a total bitch! I will be getting way into it now that I got a copy again finally, thanx to jesusc. It's game time damnit! |

I could never beat Operation Jumpgate. Too damn hard. Truth be told, I wasn't really that much a fan of the series, until ShockWave 2: Beyond the Gate. I loved that game. _________________ Why fit in when you can STAND OUT! |

A "tad" might be an understatement ... I think the 1st game anyway was unfair in its challenge. Ex - I remember dying a million times just in the 1st level unable to avoid all the fire coming my way (I wish the ship wasn't confined to such a narrow flight path!) Finally after what seemed like an eternity, I beat it only to be told I missed one of my objectives and was going to have to do the whole level over!
Shockwave 2 is tough to be sure, but atleast there is much more variety.

It has been quite a while, but I seem to remember liking Hoverstrike cd. Maybe I'll pop it in my player for another go. |

Shockwave was an inspirational game for me. It wasn't a launch title, not quite, but the graphics sold the 3DO too me. It's hard to put into context, because obviously now Shockwave looks very dated, but up until October 1993, the type of graphics in Shockwave were only available in the arcade. (and that was 30 miles from where my parents and I lived) I had an Amiga which didn't even come close, and so the idea of the 3DO was orgasmic. The anticipiation waiting for the 3DO was only equalled by the feelings I had when my Atari STe arrived, some 5 years earlier (I physically shook when this turned up, I was 17 years old) and when my Playstation turned up some 2 years after the 3DO? (was it two years?)
It was an image, like the one below, that sold the 3DO to me! It appeared in Edge magazine (I think it's called Next Gen Magazine in the U.S.)
The 3DO cost £400.00 in the UK. Which was a heck-of-a-lot. And to make matters worse I was in my final year University. I didn't really need distractions but I'm so glad I did.
It was, when those blast shields parted for the first time, and you can see the little white boats on the blue sea and the coast of Egypt looming into view, through the cockpit, a seminal gaming moment. It was awesome. Wasn't it?
Shockwave 2 was the better game mind :)

WOW! I guess you really liked the Shockwave games? Nice remembering that.
@Trev; Hover Strike CD is VERY playable. One of my faves for the Jaguar CD. |

Well, now that you jumbled up responses for two different series', I can see why. The xpansion pack was for Shock Wave in the form of Operation Jump Gate. Hover Strike was a two game series for Jaguar, one Cart and one CD. Don't let people try and tell you they are the same game either because the CD release is a sequel to the original. |
