· Quote

We've probably all asked that question when thinking of importing a game.  Sure the cover may look cool, the graphics might be sweet, and the sound may rock, but if the game can't be understood than what is the point? (unles you are a collector)

So, I've been going through my own import library and will be providing brief thoughts on the games I have, and if they are worth hunting down.
I'll be adding more over time, but here is a handful to start ...

-AUTOBAHN TOKIO - Yeah, it doesn't control the best but I still have fun with it.  It is not the rarest of imports either, and is in full english which makes an already easy game (it is racing afterall) even easier to navigate.   hey!

-DOCTOR HAUZER - Would be very tough to play, but walkthroughs are available.  A must play for 2 main reasons.  1 - To see some graphical powers of the 3DO (and in an early release mind you) 2 - To get a glimpse of the early days before "survival horror" had become a genre.
Great music too!  hey!

-F1-GP - In terms of language barrier, no worries.  Racing games are very easy to come to terms with.  But control on this ... I could never get comfortable with it.  Maybe if you find it cheap ... ???

-PYRAMID INTRUDER - Why this wasn't released outside of Japan is a mystery, as every line read & uttered is in English!  Couldn't be any simpler to play!  Cons are that this is next to impossible to find , but if you ever do see it grab it asap!  hey!

-SAILOR MOON - Fighting games translate well regardless of language.  Easy enough to play, and among the easier imports to find to.   hey!

-STRIKER - WORLD CUP SPECIAL - An import not from Japan???   This was a UK exclusive release!  Good news, as it is full english and pretty easy to fine.  If you haven't yet had your fill of 3DO soccer games ... hey!

-ULTRAMAN - The best 3DO import fighter there is!  Looks great, and is simple to play.  A must own if you can find it.  hey!

-VIRTUAL STADIUM BASEBALL - The usual EA polish, only in the japanese language.  If you can navigate the menus (trial & error will do it) there is a great baseball game waiting.  All japanese teams (no biggie), and a season takes up all the 3DO's memory, but great for single games.  Pretty rare though.  Get looking, it is worth it!  hey!

-YU YU HASHUKO - ...okay I guess.  Good for fans probably, but the fighting itself is average at best.  With 2 better import fighters available, and factoring in the rarity & cost ...  ???

More to come soon!

I don't know how I feel about Ultra Man, the videos I've seen it looks pretty cool graphically but the sound he makes when he punches has got to be the most annoying thing I've ever heard  "CHAAAAACK.. CHAAAAAACK!"

The game play looks kinda shallow, not alot of moves :/

I guess I'd have to try it before I can make a complete opinion on it.

Play it through and post your thoughts ... would be nice to get a 2nd opinion.

I tend to agree w/your observations too, although the graphics really do help to overcome the games weaknesses.  It looks sweet!  Very Happy

A few more imports for the list ...

-Belzerion- One of my new favorites!  Despite the language barrier, I was able to play all the way through til the end!  Great graphics & music, and (from what I could make out) a great story too.  Add in the smooth 3d engine coupled w/some fun fights & great cinemas and this game is a must own!  Not a stranger on Ebay either so if you want it, you can find it.  hey!

-Firewall- The odds of finding an original copy of this Korean oddity are virtually nil, but don't worry ... you are not missing much.  Picture Rebel Assault or Novastorm but w/impossible challenge (I can't make it past level 2! )  Maybe someday I will figure out the secret, but until that day arrives ...  barf

-Montana Jones- A combination of puzzles, crude 3d maze sections, and clunky platforming.  I had high expectaions, but was dissapointed when I finally played this game.  Still, the cinemas are solid, and the game is playable so .... maybe.  ???

-Winning Post  The huge Japanese instruction book should have tipped me off.  Almost unplayable, and though trial & error can eventually get you through the menus, no fun is to be had.  You can't even race the horses ... just watch them.  Pass on this in a big way.  barf

I'll keep adding to the list in the coming weeks ...
