I wish I was brave enough to try & hack the 3DO (I'd love to figure out the encryption secret!) but I mainly use it to compress files, as I own a ton of games & no memory unit.  Some games take up so much space too!

How do others use this rather nifty device?

It would be nice if we could get a section for Game Guru codes here on the forum.  I've got a few, others could add more, maybe it could be a sticky.

I was never too informed on that product, was it an actually peripheral or a CD that ran the codes through memory on start up like the modern game sharks?

It is a cd, but the sucker has some real power ... if you are careless using it you could potentially do some real damage to your 3DO.  Codes were it's main function, and it got the most attention for that ... a # of mags at the time had sections for Game Guru codes alongside Gameshark ones.

It also played a key role in 3DO's encryption being cracked, although very few fans know how it was used.  Those that are in the know seem to be protecting the specifics for various reasons.

why would they be protecting it?

Opinions seem to vary, but profit is my hunch.  I'm not as up to speed on it as others though, so I could be wrong.  Maybe some more people will add their thoughts ...

thats rather stupid since they can't legally profit from something they technically don't own and cannot own without buying the rights from whoever still holds the rights for what remains of the 3DO hardware.. it's probly "reasons" such as that to why we havn't seen any form of encryption publically yet  Evil or Very Mad

Game Guru is awesome, especially if you don't have the Memory Pack for the 3DO. I use mine for compression, but have been fooling around with the idea of trying some other things. Too bad it still can't remove the black bars from "Plumbers Don't Wear Ties" though.  laughing

If the Game Guru was a really smart device, it would automaticaly eject the 3DO whenever Plumbers was inserted into it.  Mr. Green

i used it a few times for the cheats that are on it and the very few that were printed in 3do magazine. mostly though, i would use it for compressing files.
it's a shame they couldn't make it easier for youngsters to use.
