|
|
I haven't done this modification myself yet...but I know it can be done.
I asked Rich off Italjetdragster.com about it, as he was selling his SR172 and I noticed he had converted the SR Back Drum Brake to a Disc Brake.
So here's a rough guide on what you would need to do.....as written by Rich
Really easy hour job if you take your time.... You need a rear wheel, disc and caliper, hose and master cylinder off a runner.....Firstly just make sure you have the 2 lugs on the back casing to mount the caliper on... (all SR's I've seen do)
1. Scoot on centre stand, remove pipe and back wheel.
2. Remove brake shoes and springs and grind off flush the post that the shoes pivot on, also remove brake actuator arm, which just slides out.
3. The lugs have holes in them already but need drilling out and making a few mil bigger to accept the 2 caliper mounting bolts, do this now.
4. Fit runner hub, just like your old SR wheel with it's central nut
5. slide on caliper and bolt it up
6. Fit runner wheel with the 5 bolts
7. Run the hose to the bars (ya can cheat by taping the hose to the cable and pulling it thru, but it can get caught then it's bodywork off)
8. Off with the old brake lever and on with the new runner master cylinder and lever, you'll obviously have removed the handlebar cover..
9. Bleed it all up
10. Re-fit the handlebar cover, it's tight, but does juuust fit.
Job done, back brake as keen as a big brother applicant |

Ahoy! .. Yeah I did rush the guide a little, but it is nice and easy with not much to catch you out.. There is a video under the stunting section on drag.com of dario (waynder) fitting the rear disc to his sr, but it's speeded up and doesn't really show you any detail.. But it's an easy job and transforms the rear brake. You really need it especially if your gonna be doing stuntwork. .. Yeah, all the bits you need you will find on 2t runner/dragsters 125 or 180's ..Beware tho, drag calipers are crap ajp items..Always go for a nice runner grimeca caliper. |

I'm breaking a runner 180 at the mo .. So I'm going to sell the parts to do a rear disc conversion on e-bay shortly if anyone fancies doing it to their SR125. |
