Now I am no lawyer, but it is my understanding that trials take place in the township that the original crimes took place. If memory servers me, Kate committed most of the crimes (or at least the biggest one murder) in Iowa. But the trial was clearly in LA County. Is this just a mix up or I am missing something?
Good question! I heard concerning the Roger Clemens bit that oftentimes these cases (especially in a civil case, which was NOT what Kate had) will be tried in the "area of offense," so your question is a great one.
Perhaps because Kate has a "son," the defense was able to argue for a change in venue? Perhaps because Kate's mom (in theory) was hospitalized in the LA area, the prosecution was able to argue for a change in venue?
...Or perhaps it's as sloppy as the writers need Kate in LA for the flashforward, need her to stay put (as she wants to be forced in her probation to not be on the move), AND need her on a west coast city with easy access to flights that can take her to Mystery Island when the plot requires her to do so at a time after the bearded Jack flashfoward?! _________________ "So we saved the world together for a while, and that was lovely." --Desmond
