I think it may well be that the article in the paper about the death, which messes Jack up so much, was posted as some sort of code to notify anyone concerned about that something else entirely has transpired.
For example, it may be some agreement between the Oceanic 6/survivors - some sort of signal to alert each other that this thing has transpired.
So, Jack is not really upset about someone dying, but rather about this other unknown thing that the death article signified.
The coffin and funeral were just there to avoid suspicions. Hence, nobody came. |

But Jack went...
If it was just a code, why would Jack bother going to the funeral?
And also why would Jack ask Kate if she planned on going to the funeral if it was just a code? |

I think its a real person too.
My guess: Miles
1)Small Coffin
2)He seems to alienate everyone around him (thus Kate's reaction)
3)Perhaps he was Jack's only known Island contact that he could find. So, it kept the possibility of returning alive. _________________ "Sensitivity?….WHO CARES"- jg |

I think its going to be someone significant. And at the moment, I wouldn't really consider miles, but maybe if he is developed more throughout the season he could be that significant. _________________ "Whenever something good happens to me, I wait two weeks before I tell anybody because I like to use the word 'fortnight."

Could it possibly be Sayid? Maybe he did something which he thought was good (helping Ben) but everyone else viewed him as a traitor. |
