I just finished Stephen King's newest novel 'Duma Key'. There is no direct tie in with Lost, however, there are a couple of things to point out. I believe an ad ran during the season 4 premiere for the novel.

What I find most interesting is the circle of influence between Lost and King...there have been many direct references to Stephen King and his work in the series and the writers have obviously been influenced by his narrative style. King has made it known he is a huge fan of Lost and wrote a column for EW about it.

'Duma Key' has many similarities to the show, mainly that it is set on an island (albeit a populated one directly off the coast of Florida), is mystical in nature and even name drops the show in one passage.

Finally, I enjoyed the novel very much, but not for the usual reasons when I read King. He has a lot invested in the protagonist, a wealthy construction mogul who loses a limb and suffers brain damage following a job-site 'accident'. After a divorce he relocates to Duma Key and begins to paint as a means to build 'hedges against the night' as part of a long and arduous recovery process from the accident. King fleshes out the characters so well and really digs deep into the mysteries of memory, tragedy, loss and healing. The first two-thirds of the book are so seamless and eloquent that when the usual King horror elements finally reveal themselves it is jarring in a very good way. I really enjoyed the read and recommend it if you're looking for something on the other end of the spectrum of something as dense and challenging as Valis appears to be.

I'm only on page 100 or so, but just a little thing I'd like to throw out there.
I believe I read an interview with Mr King, in which he talked about Duma Key. He said that he got the idea for the book after having watched Lost, and he said that Duma Kay was, in some way, his theory on Lost.

Now, don't hold me up on this, I can't seem to find the interview, but this is what I remember reading. Heh.

I have no doubt he was inspired by Lost for the book...but I can't see it being his theory regarding the forces at work on Lost Island...maybe I missed something, I look forward to reading your thoughts once you finish.
