There seemed to be a bunch of information available on Jin's gravestone, mostly written in what I am assuming is Korean. However, it seemed they were giving us a nice close up shot of the dates on the stone. The ones on the left only seemed to have a birth year, and I assume that date is Sun's birthdate.....this side of the plot being a future burial place for her alongside Jin. However, on the dates on the right, and I assume those to be Jin's dates, the date of death was etched in as 9-22-2004. Wasn't that the date of the crash? Is it simply that Sun would have to report Jin dying in the crash in order to go along with the story Jack's testified to in Kate's trial, of only 8 people surviving the crash? I just found it interesting that his death date is placed on his gravestone as the date of the crash.
Additionally, how could there be 8 bodies that would not have been in the wreckage, yet the staged crash had all the bodies accounted for. I can only assume that the discovery of Ben's staged wreckage never made it past the crew of the freighter....the story of the Oceanic 6 simply cannot coexist with the evidence presented in the staged crash (324 bodies)

You are right: that's the date of the crash. That means that Sun is in on the same "deal with the devil" to cover up the real 815 events, just as Kate, Jack, and presumably Hurley, Sayid, and Mysterious 6th Oceanic Six Person are. _________________ "So we saved the world together for a while, and that was lovely." --Desmond

The seen that when we saw the wreckage on TV could be a flash forward. Frank and Daniel may not remember becasue of some crazy memory erasing even like in that cheezy movie Men in Black. Who knows, I am grabbing at straws here to try and explain. I thought that the news said all passenger were accounted for and all had died which would indeed cause a conflict.
If it wasn't a flash forward then that might help to explain why Frank is on the freighties mission. Widmore want him there to die, since he knows the crash was fake (he knew it wasn't the pilot becasue he wasn't wearing his wedding ring).

But they clearly stated in the newscast that the depth of the crash made recovery of the bodies impossible. They are ASSUMING that everyone on board died and that everyone is on board. It has not been confirmed, despite the title of the episode ("Confirmed Dead"). It's a reasonable assumption, of course.
I agree, though, that something is going to have to give. I don't see how the story of the plane in the trench can stand up to 6 or 8 or any survivors. I hope we learn how after the break. _________________ Go Bolts!
