I don't know how much time passed off hand between the point were Michale left in the boat and the point where Mr. Friendly got shot.  I would suppose a week or 2.

I know time isn't normal but i am getting confused.

So lets say it takes about a week for Michale to get from the island to home.  lets say another week for him to get suicidal.  Then a month or so to heal from the car wreck.  That definitely puts Mr. Friendly's arrival after his death?

Here is the timeline we know for sure ...

Nov. 27, 2004 (from Lostpedia) - Michael & Walt leave the Island ... bearing 325 in a boat.

Nov. 22 or later - Michael & Walt return to the "real world", as per Michael's mom's statement in the flashback ... Most likely after Nov. 25 (Thanksgiving) from the Christmas decorations.

Dec. 17 (from Lostpedia) - Naomi crashes onto the Island.

Dec. 22 (from Lostpedia) - Tom is killed in raid of Losties' beach camp.

Where do the following events fall in the timeline ...

- Michael tries to commit suicide by crashing his car
- Michael's stay in the hospital
- Michael visits Walt at his mom's place
- Michael meets with Tom (Mr. Friendly) off-Island
- "Kahana" Freighter leaves port (from Fiji)

Are there any other events that I have missed?

If Michael's crash occurs in early-Dec., he stays in the hospital for a few days, and then visits Walt.

Tom must be back on the Island by Dec. 11, since that is the date Locke blows up the sub (assuming that the sub is how Tom got off/on the Island)

Therefore, I would conclude that Tom & Michael's meeting occurs sometime in the Dec. 7-10 timeframe.

I would extrapolate that the Kahana leaves its port in Fiji in the Dec. 12-15 timeframe.

Am I making any incorrect assumptions? Am I missing information/time references from past shows?

This is definitely a work-in-progress ...

That's good stuff ebonX...I am particularly puzzled by the car crash and subsequent hospital stay. Despite the island's power to prevent Michael from succesfully commiting suicide, he did appear to have suffered some serious injuries...was he not wearing a neck-brace in the hospital bed? Isn't it safe to assume the hospital stay would need to be longer than a few days?

Althought it wasn't overtly referenced or alluded to, I think the time disparity between the island and off-island will be used to explain some of these questions.

I hope so anyway  Confused

the timeline is interesting to say the least-

I was trying to figure it out for two reasons- one obviously to understand when this was happening- but 2- trying to figure out why we saw Walt so old at the end of Season 3.

guess that will be explained later

Anyhow- I think the healing time is the best point here- since the Island is preventing Michael from dying, do we assume it is helping him heal quicker too?

Also, don't assume the sub is the only way on and off the island- Polar bear anyone?

and as mentioned- how quickly does Michael mentally collapse?!  I guess when you have nothing to talk about to your son on the long boat ride back, you tell him about how you rescued him including the murders- he shortly there after stops talking to you (again)- Mom won't have you cause you won't tell her the truth- so she shuts you out-- all of this could add up quickly then, I guess.

Which brings me to my next point... WHY NOT TELL MOM?!

guess he has Mother issues!  (man these people all have serious parental problems do they not?!!)

Oh well lots to think about in the next month...

i was figuring the hospital stay would have been on the longer side.

Like you said he did have a neck brace and i am would assume a bone or 2 was broken.  Plus the nurse did say your lucky to be alive, not your lucky you didn't get injured much, if it were a quick hospital stay.

In addition when they did meet they both through some tough punches.  I don't think that would have been very possible while still injured.

@ Ebonx

I am a huge fan of timelines when it pertains to this show and yours is spot on

Keep in mind that Tom did not necessarily have to use the sub to get off the Island. After all Michael and Walt used that that boat, I imagine if Ben has access to millions of dollars he could get a few simple boats and hide them away around the Island.

So based on the following assumptions & known dates, I can start to narrow down this timeline ...

(A) Mr. Friendly uses the sub to get on/off the Island
(B) No significant amount of time-shift occurred to Michael & Walt leaving the Island

Nov. 27, 2004 (from Lostpedia) - Michael & Walt leave the Island ... bearing 325 in a boat.

Dec. 11 (from Lostpedia) - Locke blows up the sub, Galaga

Dec. 17 (from Lostpedia) - Naomi crashes onto the Island.

Dec. 22 (from Lostpedia) - Tom is killed in raid of Losties' beach camp.

After reviewing episode synopses (on Lostpedia) & cross-comparing with appearances of MC Gainey on the show (via imdb), Tom's whereabouts on the Island are unknown from Dec. 4 (Tom's last appearance to Jack at the Hydra station) until Dec. 10 (seen throwing football with Jack in Othersville).

Therefore, Michael's timeline will look something like ...

- Michael arrives in NYC (~Nov. 28-29)
- Michael car-crash (~Dec. 1)
- Michael's stay in the hospital (~1 week)
- Michael visits Walt at his mom's place (~Dec. 9)
- Michael meets with Tom (Mr. Friendly) at the Hotel Earle (~Dec. 9)
- "Kahana" Freighter leaves port (from Fiji) (~Dec. 11-13)

The problem with this timeline is the amount of time passed between Michael & Walt returning to the "real world" & Michael's attempted suicide, which should take at least a couple of weeks, not a couple of days.

Michael's stay in the hospital after a near-fatal car crash, is also a point of contention ... I speculate that Michael was in the hospital for about 1 week, which I agree is still contentious, but that length of time is at least plausible.

The dates after Michael gets out of the hospital are pretty solid, so the only "play" we have in the timeline is prior to his crash.

My wild theory about what happened to Michael, Walt, & Mr. Friendly off-Island ...

Ben's bearing of 325 take Michael & Walt thru a Vile Vortex that "spits them out" in the Carribean without any significant passage of time ...

Nov. 27 - Michael & Walt return to "real world"
Dec. 1 - Michael crashes his car in an attempted suicide
Dec. 4 - Mr. Friendly leaves the Island (via the sub)
Dec. 8 - Michael gets out of the hospital, meets with Mr. Friendly, & gets his KJ cover-story
Dec. 9 - Mr. Friendly leaves NYC & returns to the Island
Dec. 10 - Michael leaves for Fiji
Dec. 12 - Freightor "Kahana" leaves port in Fiji

Now, the cool part of the theory ... I think Mr. Friendly was not only sent off-Island for Michael, but also for Anthony Cooper. If Tom follows the same path as Michael & Walt off-Island, then it is totally plausible that Tom sets up the capture of  Anthony Cooper during his off-Island jaunt (see Lostpedia article).
