Yes, for many of us the subject line is sacrilegious: we all love Lost, we all love JJ Abrams impact on Lost, and we all loved Star Trek.
If you agree with the statement above, note that it's carefully written: we loved Star Trek. Simply put, the boycott idea holds the feet of Paramount to the fire. Paramount killed Star Trek, by trying to get blood from a stone. The cannon had no time to rest, and the fandom tuned out DS9, faded on Voyager, and abandonded Enterprise (which, it should be noted, was being watched by 2.5 million people a week when it was cancelled, fully 90% less than the highwater mark of TNG's "All Good Things..." which was viewed by over 25 million people).
It also might be questionable, to some, to "abandon" Mr. Abrams. His impact on Lost is seen every week--though, in all fairness, he hasn't had an active hand in the show since partway through the second season: he signed a new deal with Paramount and moved his production company (Bad Robot) from Disney to Paramount. I'm sure that he still plays a role with the show, but do not forget that he has been continually involved in film (MI:III then Star Trek) for the last two years.
To summarize, it is not an abandonment of JJ Abrams (or Lost) to decide not to see the Star Trek movie. Instead, it is a damning, condeming finger pointed at the studio that has tried to wrestle ever Trek dollar from the audience, and that in that process has strangled the series. I'm sure some will say "But what if the movie is good?" I, too, see the film teaser and feel a thrill. It indeed might be an excellent movie. I personally will wait for DVD; perhaps you can wait until the second week.
Perhaps some will ask "But what if such a boycott hurts Star Trek?" Alas, Trek was hurt a long time ago by its corporate masters.
PS This idea was planted by my Uncle Ron. Just giving credit where it's due! _________________ "So we saved the world together for a while, and that was lovely." --Desmond

I will gladly join your cause ... I haven't been interested in Star Trek, since TNG days.
Personally, I think the roots of Star Trek changed after the death of Gene Roddenberry in 1991. Star Trek became just another sci-fi show, rather than the social allegory the shows were previously under Roddenberry's watchful eye.
But you are correct that Paramount is just trying to milk the fanbase at this point ... And with the only ideas they have left ... Get a big name director to do a prequel story.
As far as supporting JJ Abrams, I recognize his impact on LOST, but I do not feel any obligation to go see his movies simply because of his involvement. I would actually make the comment that, imho, the movies he has produced thus far (M:I III, Cloverfield, etc.) are simply average. I have always felt the strength of Abrams was to create a vast mysterious framework (ala Alias and LOST), but that does not transfer well to the big screen, since any mystery needs to be resolved in ~90 to 120 minutes.
I will probably just wait for it to hit the movie channels or Pay-per-View ... I am willing to spend a couple bucks to watch it, but not $10 (movie ticket) or $20 (DVD).
Finally, I agree with you that you cannot "hurt" the Star Trek brand much more than it has already been. _________________ "Destiny is a fickle bitch!" - Benjamin Linus
I think we shopuld give the new film a chance, it's a prequel after all. A fresh start. (and I'm not a huge Trek fan) Also, I am a JJ fan through Alias, not Lost but his departure did not faze me, Darlton do an excellent job without him.
