Lets just say a word for smokey and his/her/its glorious return.
It came in like a freight train from hell and did Bens bidding (apparently).
Thumbs up to the special effects people for doing a great job in that
scene.
Anyone notice when Ben went into his secret room he was fairly
clean but when he exited he was covered in dust. |

Or ash maybe? Underworld, Cerebus, ash... smoke?
Also did anyone notice the stoney ruins that appeared in that secret room? |

Was he returning form his teleporting trip to the Sahara? _________________ "I dust a bit...in addition, I am at the moment writing a lengthy indictment against our century. When my brain begins to reel from my literary labors, I make an occasional cheese dip."

I don't think that was his teleporting trip while down there. I had wondered the same thing, but he was still visibly distraught about Alex to have spent years hunting down Widmore's people.
SMOKEY rocked! I kept hoping SMOKEY would show up in time to save Alex, but not to be. |

I also don't think that Ben teleported to the Sahara (& back) during his time in the secret-secret room ... I think he simply released "Smokey".
I'm thinkin that the Orchid station as a functioning teleporter (if that is indeed what the station is) will be revealed later.
If the Orchid station has been "up & running" this whole time, then why hasn't anyone used it or even mentioned it as a possible way off the Island ... Why would Ben give Michael & Walt the Others' boat? Why not just use the Orchid station teleporter? ... I gotta conclude that the Orchid station (in the Island present) is not functional.
WILD SPECULATION -- In some future ep, Faraday makes repairs to the Orchid station & gets it "up & running". Then a battle ensues, during which, Ben escapes through a wormhole created by (a now functioning) teleporter. _________________ "Destiny is a fickle bitch!" - Benjamin Linus |

I think the true worth of a teleporter would be in keeping it secret. Especially if the teleporter always opens to the same spot.
It would be the last thing you would reveal to someone, and only then if they would lay down their lives to protect the secret.
I would not trust Michael not to spill the beans and then Widmore would have people waiting for Ben (the Man With a Golden Truncheon) to show up.
It is quite possible that we have seen the effects of the teleporter, just not with explanation. How Mr. Friendly got off the island, how Locke's Dad (the real Sawyer) got to the island, etc.
I do think that scene with Ben in the Orchid is coming up. I am looking forward to it! |
