Seems to be an influence.

This book is great read. It's a tale of a world, in which a modified version of the Flu (called The Superflu or Captain Trips) kills 98% of the planet.

The survivors of this pandemic (at least the ones in America) starts having dreams. Either they dream of an old african-american woman, who tells them to come to her, or they dream of a man that tells them to come to him.

All the "good people" go to the old woman (Mother Abigail), and all the "bad people" go to the man (Randall Flagg, a recurrent antagonist in Stephen Kings works). The good people locate themselves in Boulder and the bad go to Las Vegas.

The Boulder people start a new government, a democracy, while Randall Flagg is a dictator.

In the end, some of the protagonists go to Las Vegas, in order to stop Randall Flaggs evil city, but by an act of God, the city explodes when an act of God (A giant glowing hand) touches an atom bomb, causing Vegas and everyone in it, to perish.

I, personally, cannot see many connections between the plot of Lost and the plot of The Stand. There are some similarities between some of the characters

The best example is a singer named Larry Underwood.
He has had one hit, called "Baby, Can You Dig Your Man?"
He gets a nasty drug habit, and tries to lay low with his family. When the world gets killed, he meets a woman in her 50s named Rita Blakemoor and the two decide to leave New York together. She dies of a drug-overdose (Larry calls it 70% accident and 30% suicide). This causes him to enter a semi-catatonic state.

He finds some of the novels other main characters, and helps them get to Boulder, to join up with the other "good guys", thereby helping himself out of his catatonicity (is that even a word?).

After arriving at Boulder, he joins the "government", and eventually is part of the group that goes to Las Vegas (he goes even though he knows he will die there) and dies when the bomb explodes.

Besides a Charlie, we have a young girl who's pregnant, but the father is not immune, so he dies (Claire). We have a protagonist, who's a great leader, though reluctant (Jack, at least season 1 Jack). and a couple of others, but no biggies.

I don't think we'll find any answers in this novel. Some inspiration for the characters, mayhap, but not any answers.
