AWESOME! I love episodes that get everyone involved...the montage at the end was reminicent of another great series, The Wire, and it's highly praised season ending montages.

Favorite scene: Sun squaring off against her father and revealing she had bought controlling interest in his company. Sun's sly smirk and confident posturing were great as was the strongly acted shots of her father's dawning awareness of losing control. Terrific!

More great moments from an episode that gave us a lot of anticipated moments in a very satisfying way and left plenty of room for significant plot progression in the 2 hour finale:

Keamy and his crew vs. Ben (how great will it be if we get to spend some significant time seeing Ben's wits vs. Keamy & Crew's brawn?! And we thought Ben had it rough as a Lostie captive?)

The shot from the rear of the coast guard plane as the door lowers in front of the silouhetted shots of the Oceanic 6. The scene, had you asked me in Season 1,  I would have said ranks very high on the most anticipated future scenes on Lost. And the tremendous guilt on the 6's faces, with obvious significance, was great to watch.

Hurley: "Was that question directed at me?" LOL

Sayid & Nadia. More great acting.

Alpert certainly wasn't fucking around this episode was he? I didn't realize there were that many Others left.

The numbers have a cameo!!

And of course, Claire's mom. WTF? Wasn't she in a coma last we saw her? All the elements from writing, acting to the filming of the scene worked together to  milk all the juicy tension and drama from it.

So he does know. Uncle Jack

Aaron's grandmother telling Kate how beautiful her baby was. Will she play a bigger role in the future?

I love it when Lost lives up to it's potential!

Loved it.

THIS episode was the most like a season 1 episode.

Cheech "What you all talking about....building a fire or hunting boares".
That cracked me up.

So, whats the betting the freighter gets blown up.

Also, did I read this right, did Sun pretty much confirm Jin is dead ?

2 thingsI didn't like...

The whole thing about Kate being 6 months pregnant when
she arrived on the island was kinda glossed over.

Paiks company seems like its a BIG corperation.Worth hundreds of
millions. So exactly how much compensation did Sun recieve seing
she bought a controlling share in that company.

This episode didn't appear to give too much out, but i loved it all the same.  I really have to see the final episode after seeing this one, not that i wouldn't anyway.

I like it how they tease the audience with ways that the 6 get grouped together only to dived them up further.  clever and cruel.

so the thing on that guys arm is the link to the explosives on the freighter.  makes sense.  if he dies widmore wouldn't want to provide any means for anyone else to find the island, nor provide a method for those on the island to get off and talk about it.

from the way sun was acting i would say that jin is really dead, or at least she really believes he is, so that would imply the freighter does blow up.

I really hope we don't loose desmond.  I'm not one for sappy love stories but i would like to see him and penny back together as the last scene.

I wonder if the 6 getting off the island is the result of the time line fixing itself because the island gets moved more so than a intentional leaving the island.

something tells me i am really going to be frustrated with this finally.  the cliff hanger(s) are going to be huge.

i would like to note once again referencing the beginning of the 3rd trimester.

I'm confused about the timelines in the O6 story. I think (if I heard right) they said Aaron was 105 days old and that Kate was 6 months pregnant when she was arrested. That implies (assuming he wasn't massively prem) that Aaron was born about 3 months into island life and then another 3 months expire before they make it back to Hawaii. Now I thought we had only had about 3 months 'real' time so far on the island. Either they take 3 months to get back to Hawaii or we have some significant time still to go before they get off.

Also, I notice that the story is that 8 made it to the O6 island and then Aaron was born (and is one of the O6). So that means 3 die on the O6 island. I wonder if there is a good reason for that part of the story and who they supposedly are.

Lol, I had forgotten that!  I guess we need to give a mulligan to the writers... here's what Lostpedia says:

Christian Shepard "introduced himself formally to Claire as her father, and he suggested, reluctantly, that she be taken off life support, since there was no hope of her recovering or ever leading a normal life again. Claire decided that she could not go through with it, and Carole was kept alive for many years. She was still in the coma when Claire became pregnant and boarded Oceanic Flight 815.  Carole revived from her coma sometime after the crash...."

A little soap opera-y, but hey.  It can't all be smoke monters and time machines.

If you're referring to Sun's comment to Pappa Paik, then I disagree... she merely was retelling the story of Jin's death during the crash, and perhaps doing so to channel her anger about whatever his current state is on the island (which may be dead, I grant you).

As for controlling interest, I don't entierly disagree (it's a slightly weak area), but given that the company is publicly traded (ala stocks) then couldn't a controlling share still be a minorty share?  I don't know a lot about stocks, but if 90% of the company is owned by normal people, mutual funds, etc, and 10% is owned by Papa Paik... then Sun buys up 20% of the normal people's stock, she owns the biggest single slice of the pie.  Right?  Or am I horribly wrong?!  lol

Oh, I know!  It's like the moment you say "aha," then Aaron and Sun are in a room with C4.  How the writers taunt us.

EXCELLENT point... either the writers have made a massive mistake (doubtful) or there's more story to be told.  At some point, reference is made to the crash being 10 months ago (was it the press conference?  or the memorial for Christian?).  That's July 2005; on-island it's maybe, maybe January 1 2005.

As for the 8-becoming-6, it's once again been floated out there (the other time was at Kate's funeral and there was a lot of discussion about whether it had been said, etc).  It'll be interesting to see where it goes--hopefully it won't be dismissed as something done off-camera.

Random thought: ala "Expose," it would be funny, at some point, for a background TV to have the TV movie version of the "official" Oceanic 6 story... just for maybe 5 seconds or something.  (That could be a way to show how the 8 become 6, by the way....)

The press conference did not confirm that Jin is dead. Sun was obviously lying about when and how he died, but if he died is still debatable.

The scene with her father indicates that there are some gaps to be filled in since the return of the six.
Sun had daddy issues but she now has a visceral hatred for him and blames him for Jins death (or him still being "lost").

This gives weight to the theory about Paik was involved with Widmore and had some knowledge of the island.

As for controlling interest, Paik was blind-sided. Before Sun arrived he was asking "how could this happen?" and there was a mention of five different banks.

I agree that there are other parties involved, most likely Hurley... or even Ben.

Rewatched the episode today... I was struck by the beauty of the music at the end montage... the emotioal strings as overtones, then some blaring, vicious horns popping up to act as evil undertones.  Nice.

what i liked most about the episode was how each member  of the O6 got their own little flashback moment. it almost didnt seem like we were going forward to them being off the island but infact going backwards to them being on the island, i thought it was cleverly done and it eased the viewer into acceptance of the new format of season 5, i can imagine that in that season  the O6 wont have any island flashbacks and there will be alot more present time incidents with them. Perhaps im wrong though.

Hey folks, can anyone tell me for sure that the finale next week is a two-hour special? I really enjoyed this weeks episode and is sinister sense of forboding. I'm as exited about next week's finale and have a feeling it's going to be the most shocking of everything that has gone before. I suspect there won't be that many shocks. However, do thing that the way events come about will prove quite surprising.

And hey, Lostcasters, gutted you guys didn't manage to knock out a podcast this weekend. However, if you can bring yourself to bring us an all-star, bumper podcast after the finale that'd be just grand.

The episode on 5/29 is absolutely positively 2 hours long from 9pm to 11pm; part 1 reairs from 8-9.
