Just passing along a pretty nifty theory that was on the Entertainment Weekly website:
"HOSTILE TAKE OVER
Not the Hostiles, but a business take over. Sun is pissed and she's putting daddy in his place. She's got controlling ownership of his company and dammit, he better respect her! Could the O6 be in on it with Sun, are they the "five bank accounts" that Paik's cohorts were speaking about? Perhaps they are all in on it together because they suspect Paik's Dharma involvement and they are going to use the company resources to get back to the Island? Well, it's a theory. I didn't say it was good one!"

I thought that too when i rewatched the episode but i brushed it aside seeing as it seemed to me like it was too soon after the crash for the 5 to decide to do that.
I think they're all going to each have a realisation period that they need to go back to the island at some stage or another, possibly early season 5.
I think we were shown of jacks realisation at the end of last season and in his flashforwards this season which was why he was so intent on getting kate to go back to the island too.
His realisation being that just like michael he couldnt kill himself and has a job to do for the island.
On a side note, the money for a controlling share of paiks company wouldve set sun back alot, Therefore i do not think that settlement was as big as that, and i think she had help from an outside source too.
Im putting my money on hurley, he seemed close to her, going to see jins gravestone and everything and also how he said he didnt want anything to do with the money to his father. I think he probably gave it to her for a good cause and to help raise her unborn at the time child. _________________ 108 |

Its not that Hurley ONLY wants to get rid of the money, he thinks its cursed. Hence, he wouldnt give a friend like Sun something he believes can destroy her life... |

Yeah, the difficulty of getting a real controlling interest is real.
The only way I could have it make sense to me was that:
- Sun had already bought shares in the company or was given them prior to crashing into the island.
- Sun had funds and money she had set aside prior to the crash.
- Sun got some outside backing - either Ben or Hurley.
- Controlling share was not 50%, but a much smaller percentage.
Even then, it is still hard to swallow. It is a bit of bad writing to make the audience wonder/assume so much. If they flesh it out in the next seasons that would make it not so bad. |
