More spoiler free speculation ..... stolen from a friend of mine.
Keamys iPod is what will blow the explosives on the freighter. He has been told by Widmore that the "Plan B" is kill Ben, destroy everything and get the hell out. A second purge if you will.
If he is failing in his mission he must blow up the freighter so no one can get off the island. The presence of some red shirts on the freighter adds credence to the suggestion Keamy fails and it's goodbye freighter.
However the O6 will somehow escape on the little boat with an outboard we saw Daniel and Sayid using or Des's sail boat. I think the little outboard as Daniel said "it can only hold six".
What I don't get is;
a. How the O6 get back together
b. How they decide who is in the O6 (Aaron and Sun I understand but Hurley, Sayid and Jack as well as Kate seem odd choices)
c. How the cover story is completed -- a Widmore cover-up ?
d. How Sun and Aaron escape the freighter explosion. _________________ Mark B.

For Part "A" in your post Mark,
Im going to go out on a limb here and say that i dont think it'll be the boat that'll get them off the island, i think the fact lupidis's helicopter is near (and still not blown up) suggests that some of the survivors will get onto it. I dunno if its too damaged to take off or if it has enough fuel to carry people or whatever though.
Im thinking since alpert has sayid and kate, that they will head toward the orchid. this will therefore have kate, sayid, jack and hurley in the same place. I think lupidis will stay alive (even though i can still see him dying being a possibility) and fly these four to the freighter after lots of gunfire and bloodshed obviously . This will therefore reunite the oceanic 6 on the freighter..... with desmond michael and jin also. so maybe it doesnt make sense, i wonder what sawyer will do if he aint on the chopper, i hope he dont die.

I agree that the iPod is rigged to blow up the frieghter and possibly explosives out there with Keamy.
We do see the concentration of Oceanic 6 people - Hurley, Jack, Kate, Sayid - going to the helicopter. So they only need to pick up Sun and Aaron and they are all set.
However, the 6 are so glum in the airplane that one can only assume there is a deal with the devil in the escape. I would expect a confrontation with Widmore or Abaddon after they try to defuse the bomb. The 6 have their story and they keep to it, so there has to be some outside influence.
