When Sayid found Ben's secret room we got a glimpse at a few of the objects in there. What all did we see:
-clothes
-Luggage
-money (looks like Pounds, Euros, some Asian currency)
-Passports (Can't make out what it says, but it looks like it is from Switzerland)
What is the relevance of all of this? Any ideas? We already knew that they had contact with the outside world, so why show us Ben's personal travel warehouse? Does it have something to do with why the Freighties want ben and with the picture they have of him off island?
Ben’s name on the Swiss passport was Dean Moriarty, and this is the name of one of the two main characters in On The Road. The character is constantly travelling, and is charismatic yet mentally unstable. Like Ben, the character’s mother died when he was very young, and there are tensions between him and his father, although Dean Moriarty loses touch with his alcoholic father, rather than killing him, as Ben does.
The pound notes that Ben has are out of date, and are no longer legal tender, but it's probably relevent that the face on the back of the notes belongs to Michael Faraday. _________________ Isn't this where we came in?
Aren't the 'Faraday' notes are still legal tender ?
I thought the deal was that they are just not made anymore. The print run ended in 2001 or something.
As for the original question surely it's there to show Ben is a lying toad and he's been on and off the island many many times. Up until now Ben has given the impression that he's all about the island and he'd not leave. OK it's not proof but it's pretty damning evidence.
Questions are
why is he hiding it from his people ?
what has he been doing off island ?
why does he need so many different ids ?
how does he (or anyone else) come and go without being seen ? If he is seen leaving then why hide everything ? _________________ Mark B.
