I re-watched this episode and I think we witnessed Daniel's first flash when we see him watching TV and he sees the Oceanic 815 crash news ...
Now, is this a flashback (on-Island Daniel consciousness flashing back to pre-Island self) or a flashforward (pre-Island Daniel flashing to on-Island Daniel)?
I'm not sure yet, but I think he is flashing between that pre-Island moment to the present on-Island events (Freighties trying to get to the Island in the helicopter). I guess it doesn't really matter whether it is a flashback or a flashforward, as the important thing is, at the moment we see Daniel crying in front of the TV, he has some strong emotional connection to the Losties. Mt theory is that at that point in time, he has already experienced some of the events that have & are to occur on the Island.
