I was wondering about why The Temple had a DHARMA logo on the map, as I was convinced it was an ancient site after what Ben said about it being an "old place".  But, what if The Temple IS an old place of worship for the natives and it was captured and converted by DHARMA and turned into a station?  Perhaps that was even the reason why hostilities started in the first place...

Ah, WeakLemon, how wonderful it is having you on here!  Excellent idea--plus if we get back to the map discussions from season two, it looks like the temple might be in the middle of the island--a mystery place that is decidedly NOT the Pearl Station, by the way.

Literarily speaking, the center's always a place of importance.  Your theory that it could be both native and Dharma and the start of hostilities AND incredibly important... well, it works for me!

I've always been one of those guys who assumed the Question Mark was just the Pearl.  I guess it'd would make most narrative sense for the season 2 as 'Yemi' was leading them to the question mark and they found The Pearl.  I agree it's a little disappointing as there doesn't seem to be anything special about that hatch, but there you go.

I really need to get back to that map and start placing all these new hatches, actually.

Word. I for one would really like to see the writers go back and watch season two and THEN write a couple of episodes. So many questions from back then.

The Temple had a crappy logo on that map. Maybe Ben just has a generic dharma stamp he uses for maps, envelopes, greeting cards etc.

I have no idea what is going on.

It has been confirmed that the question mark on the map is The Pearl station. After all, Radzinsky or Kelvin can't have known what it was or they might have doubted what they were doing in The Swan station (The Pearl telling them that it was a test and all).

opsin, do you recall where you heard that?  I don't remember it from the OLP.  I would like to hear/read it myself.  I don't doubt you, but I always like to absorb the intonation when DL and CC say something.  There is so much more to their interviews than the pure words.

I thought that based on the map Ben gave Alex, Karl, and Danielle, The Temple was on the coast.

Just a thought, but that map might be flawed.  We don't know who made it (although Kelvin worked on it), and we don't know if it's supposed to be accurate, interpretive, or wishful thinking.

I think it was the Access: Granted thing on the season 3 DVD (or at least the transcript on Lostpedia).
As I say though, to me it makes sense from the fact that the contents of the Pearl would have totally changed Radzinsky's views of his purpose at the Swan.
OK, Kelvin seemed to have decided to give in and leave, so maybe he had come across the info from the Pearl, but he didn't seem to want to let on to Desmond...

If this is all a trap to get rid of Danielle and/or Karl then the location of the Temple on the map could be a hoax by Ben. He may have sent them to a position that he knew was guarded.

OK even though I just typed that I think Danielle and Karl were killed a by freigtee and not by anyone Ben sent. I see Alex being used as a pawn in a get Ben game. Will Ben give himself up to save Alex ?

@ Mark B,

I think you are spot-on with your idea that Ben's map to the "Temple" is a hoax ... The map could have led them to where Ben knew/thought the Freighties were.

In essence, he pulled a similar trick as with Goodwin ... Placing them in the "Line of Fire", as it were.

I think Ben will use this event to gain sympathy from the Losties in the war vs. Widmore.
