I assume the time machine is the machine that Ben turns the wheel on in the S4 finale.
I've not read all the thoey and I know it's been discussed before but can't find it but the theory clearly says that the 'time machine' can only send things back in time. But Ben went forward to 2005. And Hallowax said the bunny went forward. Des went back but that was as a result of something else not the time machine.
As I said maybe I'm behind and this has all be discussed before.
Not only that but if the island went back wouldn't it still be visible as it was there at the time it went back from. That is it would have to be there at the time it disappeared as the Losties could see it so it had to be there. If it went forward in time then it wouldn't have to be there becuase it was never there. If it went back, eventually the island will catch itself up and will appear at the second it disappeared unless someone moves it again.
In short the island occupies an area of XY space and can move forward in time but only in that XY space. If it moves from say 9am today to 10am today it never existed at 9:35am but would reappear at 10am. But if it goes back from 10am to 9am it has already existed in that entire hour so will always be there. The Losties may not realise it but they just live that hour again. If it goes way back then it would still be there in 2004/5 as it was there already. I'm not making much sense.
Clearly the island disappeared so it has to have gone forward doesn't it ?
Am I missing something ?
Maybe if you turn the wheel one way it moves the island forward and it works in reverse too ? _________________ Mark B.
<insert slightly amusing one liner or meaningful famous quote here >
Damon and Carlton have said that everything on Lost can be explained scientifically at least in theory.
Here's what I'm thinking...
Maybe we're not dealing with time travel per say, but the kind of travel we've seen in Star Trek, BSG etc.
Granted the island doesn't need to be moved vast distances like jumps to "light speed ", but the principal is the same. Space/ time is bent or warped, so point a. becomes point b. instantly.
There are obviously properties of the island that produce huge amounts of energy similar to dilithium crystal and... I'm not too familiar with BSG but don't they need a certain mineral for their (dl?) drives?
anyway...I think the only semblance of a time machine was the Dharma constructed one that Ben refers to as "silly experiments" that only deal with side affects we've witnessed with Desmond, Minkowski and now Ben, although where Desmond was only slipping mentally through time to different points in his life, Ben appearing in the Sahara Dessert would indicate that he was actually displaced physically in both space and time through some sort of rift in the fabric (a certain polar bear and Nigerian plane seem to have found the same rift).
Ben makes reference to having to leave the island as Jacobs will, and his disdain for Dharma is reiterated. I think it's symbolic that Ben breaks Dharma protocol to get to the "main valve". _________________ Joopİ
