I'm planning on moving out sometime soon, maybe into the house with Ian and everyone if its possible for me and everyone for one thing, and secondly I have a wrecked donor first generation DSM all wheel drive that with a 2nd generation shell car I can build something sweet, but Im not sure whether I should keep my truck and build it, either into a mini or a Snail truck, or buy the DSM and do that instead. Money is a big issue with me now I dont have much to spare after all is said and done, and taking a loan out to get started would be nice but might not be possible for someone to sign for me because I have no credit. Any advice for me from anybody, as to what I should do with either of these things?? thanks

How much does brownlee want? I thought that the motor was already picked over pretty well...DSMs are fun but not cheap if you do them right. If you want one your better off buying one already slightly modded and adding to it. (ex. Mario's 1st gen)
Mario bought his slightly modded 1st gen and added cams, Snail, and fuel (among small other things....) Now he has a 12sec. car for the price of a 100,000 mile civic.. Just my .02

You said you have a wrecked 1g?  and you have a 2g shell?.  I'm a little sleepy from the adventure this weekend.  Just wanted to get that clarified.  What kinda money do you want to put into the dsm project or are able to put in the dsm project.  Reason being there are plenty of 500.00 to 1500.00 dsm's out there that may run,  but think all off the bullshit you'll need to make it some what of a reliable car.  I would say go for the dsm,  simply because of support, parts are readily available, there fun as shit, but just like any modded car past what the manufacture designed will break.  So don't go into dsm's trying to half-ass or try to rig shit up to work just to save $50.00 on something.  I vote dsm, but that's because I know them and dealt with them for several years now.  Good Luck in your decision.
Mario

No what I meant was that I have an oppurtunity to buy a 1st generation DSM all whell drive, and can probably find a 2nd generation shell somewhere if I look hard enough like you said. I'm thinking maybe that'd be more fun than keeping my truck because after I get it inspected then it'll be worth enough to buy the 1st gen I think. plus themoney I make from parting it out would make me enough to get a 2nd gen minus motor and tranny. The Snail, and some other parts are gone from the 1st gen but it wouldnt be tough to get another one. Money is the main issue here.

first off.  don't get pulled into the 1st gen from brownlee.  i've seen it.  it's fucked.  and i was going to buy the motor last year or so until he told me somoe ungodly price.  somewhere around $1,500.00 to 1,800.00.  Bad mistake on his part.  I know all the guys from slowboy.  I got his receipt pulled and found out that the whole motor cost him 2,200.00.  this is of course before he rolled the car and had it upside down.  oh did he mention that the cam gear when through the hood this is what stopped the engine from running.  so figure on a another head and maybe some pistons.   I asked slowboy what the engine was worth.  they basically said nothing but told me i could be real real nice and offer him $400.00.   I knew he wouldn't take that.  So i scrapped getting his motor and built my own.  He's a nice guy.  But he thinks he shit is worth alot more than it's actually worth.

yeah thats true he and I are real good freinds but he does think that way with alot of things. hes allways been like that I dont know why. I'm looking up prices to bag my truck now because i talked to the two mini truck guys at the show and it isnt expensive at all to do. so, thank dave and mario for stopping me before doing something stupid, I'm sure that it'd be nice to have a DSM but its not practial for me at all. I'm gonna bag my truck and buy a beater or a jeep for winter and whatever.

But somehow it all seems worth it with all the stares you get when you cruise by,  or that getting sucked in your seat feeling when you accelaerate, and let's not forget the screaming sound of the wastegate when she opens up on the highway. Twisted Evil   They have their problems, but in my opinion they're still the best car to purchase and modify.  Very Happy  They're easy to come by, not to expensive to buy, parts are everywhere, there's so much support,  there's hardly anything that hasn't been questioned about,  someone will have the answer.  Confused   DSM'S..........It's a LOVE,HATE relationship.   Almost like a marriage.   Evil or Very Mad  Mad  Sad  Rolling Eyes  Very Happy

One more thing,  you know that we have one in my back yard.  It's a 97 GS-T.  It's needs cleaned!!!!!!!!,   visually it needs a hood(which i have) it needs a head definatley( which i have) it may need a shortblock as well not sure if water got down to the pistons.  So let's say it needs an engine.  It needs a bumper(do not have).  Needs a key.  My cousin seemed to have lost the ignition key.  ( haven't figured out what to do about that yet).  it also could use a set of matching wheels.  two up front and different than the two on the back.  Needs a battery also.  It may be a parts car,  or we may fix the items needed and sell the car as a whole.   That might be an option for you.  Or anyone else who's reading this thread.

allright that sounds like something that could work out if we can find a key for it. You guys make a real good point and I like the way DSM's look and drive and feel, but I just need to find the money to really do anything first of all because even painting my truck and rims is like a big step because Im that broke, seriously all the time. I'd love to bag my truck and do all kinda sick shit to it and have a DSM and Jeep, etc etc.

But I'll think about the one in your backyard, how much do you think it would take to get it running and looking better?
