I have decided to put a skyline motor in the second Z. The car shall now be reffered to as the SKYZ (pronounced Skeez). The question is exactly how to go about acquiring whichever engine I decide on. It's between the RB26DETT and the RB30DET, I just can't decide if having the 3.0L is worth the troubles that I've been reading about online.
I'm open for suggestions and comments. I'm in no big rush to do this because I need to save some disposable cash for the swap. But we can use this time for research. |

i think the rb26 is the way to go, as far as accesible parts and the like goes. But this just crossed my mind, could be a stupid idea but anyways. The Z's have always used their model # 300zx 280zx etc and coorelated it with the motors displacement (3.0l, 2.8l). So what if we made a hybrid rb26 rb30 motor to meet in the middle at a never created rb28 and maintain the 2.8 displacement but with a skyline powerplant. _________________ Speedin from Sweden |

Rb30 would be very differnt ive yet to see anyone mess with it (besides the ausie dudes in the commodors)
find an RB25 out of a R32 GTS they have strong trannys
and if you wanna see a sick Z pick up the lastest superstreet mag someone did the 26
they did a clean job |

26 all the way....Trust me the more creative you get the way more expensive it gets! That would be plenty of power for you even in almost stock form! Those tires would need to be very stickey...Prepare to get sideways.....Nice I wish I could get sideways... |

+ we don't have the resources around Pittsburgh PA to get too creative...Now if we lived in Cali then yes!. You don't need to. So K.I.S.S. the rb30 idea goodbye. |

you know that if the skyline motor is a little pricey and and hard to get over here. You can always go for the SR20. smaller engine to give a better fit, and that engine packs a punch. Just a thought, but what the hell do I kow. _________________ 2 dsm's and counting. |

I like the SR20 also but I seems that they are not considering it...Why not..I asked that question earlier..It would be way eaiser! and cheaper! I guess 400 WHP wouldn't be good enough... _________________ -Dave..."fast, reliable, or cheap...pick two" |

Danny likes big motors, and it came with a stock 6, why go backwards. Could you imagine someone in a mustang gt putting a 6 cylinder motor in, instead of a cobra motor, same thing. Bigger or better. Plus everyone has sr20 swaps, maybe not in Z's, but the rb motors come pretty close to bolting straight in. _________________ Speedin from Sweden |

Why did you go with a 4cylinder instead of a v8? You obviously never rode in a built sr20 car. You wouldn't talk so negative about it if you had. Trust me I know, Also bigger does not any way mean better. Take the 4cylinder vs the v8. half the displacement and can out perform most of them. You should know that David. But if it's all about the size, then by all means get the big skyline motor. But just for your info. I ridden in a couple 240's with the rb motor in it. Overall I still prefer the SR20. But enough said. I'm sticking with talking about DSM's. Good Luck with findind the right motor swap Danny. See you friday maybe. _________________ 2 dsm's and counting.

No Sr's are sick, i know this, i would love to build an SR20 car, in fact i was thinking about it, instead of modding my car, wow guess i regret that decision. But i guess youve never ridden in a rb26 powered car. _________________ Speedin from Sweden |

More cyclinders + less space = more problems _________________ -Dave..."fast, reliable, or cheap...pick two" |

Oh I know but think of how easy everything would be with a 4 in it! Hell you wouldn't even have to pull the motot to do a timing job! Remember Danny isn't like any of us...He is super new to the scene and hasn't worked on cars before...I mean I don't think he will go ebay crazy or do dumb shit like Fien (hand held NOS) but buying a twin Snail$$$ motor to drop in your car is a lot to wrap your virgin mind around... _________________ -Dave..."fast, reliable, or cheap...pick two" |
