Well, they ended on a high note in terms of record sales and concert attendance. They really re-took the US, more so than they had back in their heyday.
We'll see if the split lasts-- don't pop open your champagne just yet.
If this is the final split, then they went out (back) on top.

I just read a shitload of articles about this (yep Mon, I hadn't heard about this yet), and although Noel's walked before, this sounds a bit more serious.
Yeah, I think they'll get back together, but I dunno... it might take a while this time.
Either way, I do hope Noel releases a solo album and tours behind it, because he's got a much wider range than he's been showing in Oasis for the past few albums and I know for a fact that he's got a huge backlog of unreleased songs again. Some of them are really fucking good, too-- and some have been sitting around for years.
Liam may try to carry on without him, especially since he's been writing songs for a few album himself, but without Noel there's no point to the band. It's just Liam walking around like he took a crap in his pants and singing the shit out of what notes are left in his voice. Not enough. Akin to Boston without Scholz.
As for them being brothers, yeah-- but it's common knowledge (especially since Noel's got such a big fuckin' mouth) that they do NOT socialize, and in fact Liam's still never even met Noel's youngest child.
Liam's a talented singer, but that's all.
Noel will continue to be successful, regardless of what he chooses to do. And I'll be in the front fucking row, pumping my fist in the air and hollering enthusiastically.
Especially during the quiet acoustic numbers.

They already had an Oasis (read : Gallaghers) "Celebrity Death Match". 
The Gallaghers would've hated it, it was all in cockney accents.
