I think this is the acoustic/electric I'm going to buy (along with the other equipment) :

Mon? Is this a good brand? I don't want to spend thousands on a really nice one, especially since I don't consider myself a "real" guitar player. lol

To tell you the truth, I've NEVER tried an Ibanez A/E. But the best way to know is to handle one by yourself, so why dont you go to your local Guitar Center and road-test one?

I've used ELECTRIC Ibanezes for YEARS, and yes, they're great guitars.

Smile

EDIT: I've just gone through all the feedback commentary on this, and everyone seem to be raving about it. In terms of A/E guitars, I was always an Ovation kinda guy. Yamaha APX series are quite good too. But I think I'm giving this one a shot, since I use the piezo on my Luke for the hybrid stuff we play, but need a full bodied A/E for the unplugged tunes. Mr. Green

Well, to get to a Guitar Center I'd have to drive up to SF, which takes me like 25 minutes. lol

I think I'm just gonna buy this. Cool

Mon, if you were seriously considering it, BUY THIS GUITAR IMMEDIATELY!

I spent a good four hours making musical love to it last night. It fucking SHIMMERS in my hands-- SO easy to play, and the deep blue flame-look is fucking gorgeous. I used the tuning function, the first time I've tuned a guitar not by ear, and I was VERY skeptical-- until I played that first E chord, and it was in perfect tune. My fingertips on my left hand are a bit tender today, but not grievously.

I'm head-over-heels in love with it.

(Món scribbles "IBANEZ AEF30E" furiously on his Christmas wishlist)

Did you try the piezo? Smile

Did you hook up the guitar to a mixer? Did you use the preamp?

The piezo is the acoustic pickup.  Mr. Green

lol I'm a guitar idiot.

Well, last night I was playing it on the mixer with my big studio headphones on, and I wasn't so happy with the lack of signal from the E strings, especially from the low E (the high E doesn't get used much in my songs anyway). The A is nice and clear and loud, but the E is disappointingly muffled.

I know from past experiences that the E can drown out other strings, but this one is really weak-sounding when plugged in.

Of course, I was playing it absolutely dry, and I haven't fooled around much with the EQ settings, but I messed with the controls a bit and it didn't really change that flaw.

It did sound pretty nice, but I'm thinking that there are a few guitar parts I've written that really rely on the low E providing important colour to the chord changes, and for those I might just mic it up. It really sounds beautiful-- but keep in mind, my only other acoustic right now is a classical, so I might just be marveling at the differences between the nylon and the metal strings. lol

It should also be noted that this is my first plug-in (electric)/acoustic, and I may just not have a fucking clue what I'm doing-- but it seems to me that there's not THAT much to learn about the electronics on these things.

My electric sounded fucking AWFUL, too-- there was very little brightness to it when I played it dry, which kinda worries me. I hope there's nothing wrong with the electronics on THAT-- I've just been playing it unplugged while sitting in front of the TV for the past however many months, LMAO. My playing is getting a lot better these days, though, and even though it sounded dull and bassy, I managed to play a bit of meandering lead. It's so much easier on a decent guitar like the one I've got now than on a crappy old piece of shit like I had before, which seems backward to me somehow.

I also noticed that there's no signal readout on my new mixer except for a signal indicator and a clipping indicator. Confused

Well, I guess that's what I get for buying a $600 mixer/interface instead of shelling out for nice stuff, LOL.

Fuck, I never had these problems for all those years where 95% of the stuff I was writing and recording was on synthesizers.  banghead

Well, if you bought the guitar brand new from a local retailer, you can always take it back for a tune up on the piezo. Your "problem" is a common one on the more economic stuff, but it can be fixed.

What you're experiencing on your electric is AN URGENT NEED OF NEW STRINGS, YOU CHEAP BASTARD! laugh

Or....

If you like it shimmering and crystal-like, instead of fat and meaty, I suggest you sell your Paul and get a Strat (or any guitar with a single coil PU configuration.

Smile

Well, it is true that I haven't replaced the strings on my electric since I bought it. lol

It's also probably got something to do with the fact that I play with my fingers and not with a pick.

But I still think there's something wonky with the elextronics on the LP.

Nah, it's just the way they sound.

A little rough. And I like it. Cool

Well, I DID buy it for (crappy) leads and not for dry strumming. lol

I'm gonna laugh at myself if I wind up with an acoustic/electric, a classical/electric, a 12-string acoustic, a Les Paul, AND a Strat.

Especially since I'm NOT A GUITAR GUY (or so I've been telling people for the past 17 years, LOL).

(CNS comes dashing up, a big stupid happy look on his big stupid face)

MON! MON! MON!

Last night I recorded some picking and some languid acoustic flourishes for the song I was telling you about yesterday, and then doubled those parts.

I was totally floored by the sound. I've never owned a proper acoustic (only a classical/nylon)-- and I took a page from Bob Ezrin re: Destroyer's guitars, which he would add a lot of high end to and then shift the pitch down a little to make it phase.

DUDE.

DUDE! The guitar parts phase with themselves and shimmer in a way that just floored me. It sounded better than a 12-string.

Funny thing is, I only recorded about 90 seconds of music, one take and a single overdub, but of course that'll be duplicated later in the track-- but I'm so fucking excited, it's the first multitracking I've done in years and my playing has improved noticeably, and the performances are suitable for use in the final version.

I tried doing the main chugging riff with my electric, but there's way too much sustain on the electric-- it'll require my classical for the percussiveness.
