Efren is the man to beat. Efren is the man that every pool player cannot help but respect. His game and attitude is the best in the game.

Efren plays pool, not 8-ball, not 9-ball, pool. He utilizes both offensive and defensive strategy on mostly all of his shots, which makes him so awsome. Efren grew up in my generation where 15 ball rotation and straight pool were the main pool games. Play 15 ball rotation successfully for a few years and master it and you can play pool like this great.

When he plays for position, he plays for his next shot and should he miss, he leaves you with a difficult shot. It appears this is a coincidence, but it is not.

Check out some Acu-Stats games of 8-ball and 9-ball with Efren Reyes playing whomever, and you cannot help but learn something very important. He don't have that half grin, half smile after every shot, hit or miss for no reason at all.

I have to agree again Efren is number 1.  I also like the way Marvin Manalo plays.  I would love to see him play straight pool.  He is really a great position player.

I agree. The phillapine folks play very well, it is like the national sport there.

I  to have to  agree again Efren is number 1, but I like Rodney Morris he just seems to be so relaxed while at the table so calm and in control. Not to mention anyone that can partner with Earl Strickland and not beat him over the head with a cue has got to get a vote from me.
I'm not dogging Earl's game just his attitude I have great respect for his game.

I wish we could play like the Philipino players.  They
just seem like they are in such control of their game.  Most of our best players are hustlers first
and are looking for a quick buck.  I think that is one reason the IPT didn't make it.

You can play as good as the players in the Philippines. It takes a bit of devotion. I remember when I was a kid back in the early 60's we used to play a game called call shot 15-ball rotation in Philly. This came was and is still very popular in the Philippines, especially as a game for teaching you good cue ball control (speed and position). You play it just like 9-ball, but with 15 balls and you call all your shots. Now, maybe you can understand why Efren and the other players in the Philippines can worm their way around the table and also make those difficult shots. It is experience - practice - practice - practice and playing one of the toughest games in pool.

Thanks for the advice, I never played the 15 ball
rotation game.  My game was and is straight pool.
I played that in the 60's and 70's.  Than work and a family cut into my playing time.  Now that I'm retired I play 6 days a week.  I take Sundays off to just relax.  I'm playing in two APA leagues and a BCA league which has some of the best players in Illinois.  I also teach pool in my area for the Monk.
I'm going to the Philippines next year and will play some pool while I'm there.  I am having a home built on Mindano.  My wife is from the Philippines and I plan to spend some time there every year.  So I'll play some of the players there.  I will have to keep practicing so they don't run me off the table.

Looks like you have your hands full. Your lifestyle is not much different then mine. Family life, work, and night school took me away from playing pool for 25 years, then I got back to it in 1996. Was playing level 6 in APA up till September 2005. Then things went down hill because of my health after Hurricane Katrina damaged my home in Slidell and I fell off my roof in the aftermath and broke most of my ribs on my left side. I had serious health problems throughout 2006 that affected my lifestyle that was associated with injury, and ten years of progressive problems with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Diabetes.

Anyway, I played a lot of straight pool and 15 ball rotation in the 60s, switched to 8-ball in the 70s, took a long break in 80s and 90s, and 8-Ball has been my game with a little 9-ball.
